Before booking you in for your first session, you will have already met me during a free online consultation call which I hold with every new client. This preliminary chat allows me to grasp your concerns, aspirations, and acquaint you with the workings of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy.


Each session spans approximately an hour, comprising three core elements: solution focused talk therapy, brain science explanation accompanied by practical tools, and hypnosis. From the moment the session begins, utmost care is taken to ensure your comfort and relaxation.


The sessions generally follow this format:

  • solution focused talk therapy and goal setting

  • hypnosis

  • progress recording.


Solution focused talk therapy

​The talk therapy segment of your session is crafted to guide you toward cultivating a positive mindset. It helps you to move away from your “problem” and starts to stimulate a different area of the brain, an area which is great at problem-solving and thinking positively. Expect to be asked questions like: What’s been good in your week so far? A tasty lunch? Completing a project? Maybe a sunny stroll or a belly laugh with your friend or partner?


Clients find that when asked to reflect on their week, they are often surprised at how many good things have happened that they didn’t give any attention to at the time!


Brain based explanation with practical tools that are tailored to your needs

Using the latest research in neuroscience, I provide an explanation of how the brain functions in relation to your individual goals and give you practical tips and techniques on how to get back to the best version of yourself. This knowledge demystifies your struggles and equips you with actionable steps towards personal growth.


Solution focused talk therapy with goal setting

Setting goals for the future is a key component of this form of therapy. In this segment of the session, I will ask you to consider your preferred future; "What would your future look like if the problem you’re experiencing had improved? What would have changed? What would you be doing more of".


As these discussions evolve, we get to a stage where you will have identified something you’d like to achieve and maybe even a small action you can take towards it that feels manageable.


Hypnosis

We then move onto the hypnosis section where you lie back on your sofa or bed and make yourself as comfortable as possible. Here I guide you into the hypnosis which is a safe, natural, relaxed, yet fully focused state. This state, often described as a waking dream, allows us to bypass the critical faculty of the conscious mind and access the subconscious, where lasting change takes root.


When you are in this state of relaxation, I narrate personalised metaphors that work by accessing the subconscious mind and provide targeted suggestions to facilitate the change you desire. The subconscious mind refers to the part of our mind that operates below the level of conscious awareness, influencing our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.


Recording progress

In the last 5 minutes of the session, I ask you to rate how you are feeling in relation to seven specific areas of your life. These results are then plotted on a graph which helps you to see your progress from week to week. This tangible evidence of progress serves as a source of motivation and reinforcement for the work we've done together.


How many sessions will you require?

Determining the number of sessions needed varies from client to client. Typically, individuals may find benefit from 4 to 6 sessions, while others with more complex conditions might require 12 to 18 sessions. Ultimately, the number of sessions depends on the specific condition being addressed.
